A Little Bit About Mending the Soul

Mending the Soul is a non-profit organization with a global mission — to bring accessible healing from trauma and abuse in Jesus’ name!

We strive to educate and resource individuals, churches, and service organizations with a sustainable trauma care model, free resources, and training contextualized for their specific languages and communities. We believe that healing happens in community, and we create resources that foster safe, restorative relationships.

“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed. He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the Lord’s favor has come, and with it, the day of God’s anger against their enemies.” Isaiah 61:1-2

Our Values

  1. We value humility by listening to, being changed by, and responding to the voices of survivors.
  2. We value integration by providing theologically precise, psychologically informed, culturally sensitive & research-driven resources and training.
  3. We value healing by providing free, Christ-centered trauma care through contextualized resources and training for marginalized communities.
  4. We value the image of God by embracing the differences across cultures, tribes, and languages, restoring the value and dignity of the oppressed. (Genesis 1:2)
  5. Above all things, we value our suffering Savior who, through the cross, brings healing, dignity, and justice to the abused and marginalized.

Curricula

Mending the Soul believes in creating high-quality, creative, and beautiful printed resources. Our unique approach to healing breaks down and defines abuse, giving visibility to its hidden effects by peeling back the layers—restoring wholeness from the inside out.

We carefully listen to the experiences, perceptions, and needs of the abuse survivors we serve, and their voices guide the development of our resources. We also contextualize and translate our healing models to make them relevant to the varying cultures and languages we bring our curricula to globally.

Mending the Soul seeks to make our curricula so complete and well-written, they can be effectively administered by lay people with basic training without compromising quality.

Training

Mending the Soul transforms individuals and organizations by training leaders first, allowing them to experience their own healing before walking others through our various healing models.

We develop high-quality, state-of-the-art online training courses, and provide support resources for MTS small group facilitators. In addition, Mending the Soul provides aftercare and community for group leaders to address and mitigate potential secondary trauma, as well as consistently maintain and improve the quality of our trained leaders.

Our View on Trauma

Mending the Soul believes that trauma caused by humans is overwhelmingly pervasive in the world, and is often the root cause of society’s most vexing problems. When abuse trauma is properly addressed it transforms individuals, marriages, friendships, families, parenting, communities, and nations.

It is imperative to shift society’s views and ways of addressing abuse. Mending the Soul exists to educate local and global leaders in an informed and compassionate response to abuse.

We understand the depth of pain associated with trauma, and shine a light on abuse, bringing it out of the dark. We believe in healing the survivors of abuse and breaking the cycle of inter-generational bondage, by equipping those who have suffered the most, to heal and help others within their communities.

We have confidence in professional therapy’s valuable role in the treatment of abuse trauma, thus it is not our intent to replace it. Rather, we seek to provide healing resources to those who do not have access to a well trained, trauma-informed therapist, or cannot afford one.

MTS also knows the body of Christ can offer long-term support that transcends the limits of individual psychotherapy. Furthermore, we believe the most complete soul healing from abuse trauma results from a combination of theologically-precise and psychologically-informed curricula.

Doctrinal Statement

Mending the Soul Ministries is an evangelical ministry deeply committed to the historic essentials of the Christian faith. We are committed to the authority and complete trustworthiness (inerrancy) of the Scriptures. We operate on the convictions that sin is the problem, Christ is the healer, and Scripture is the only reliable guide to truth.

We trust in the work of the Holy Spirit for guidance and direction in all work that comes out of this ministry. All training material is written and reviewed by Dr. Steve Tracy. Mending the Soul Ministries affirms the National Association of Evangelicals doctrinal statement:

National Association of Evangelicals Statement of Faith

  • We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.
  • We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
  • We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.
  • We believe the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
  • We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; that they are saved unto the resurrection of life and that they are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
  • We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
